THE TALE OF OUR TRAILS #2: A MORRISON SLIDE MAKEOVER
By Patt Drawe
HOW ABOUT A FACELIFT TO ONE OF OUR FORGOTTEN TECHY TRAILS ON THE FRONT RANGE?
YOU LIKE DAKOTA RIDGE, RIGHT? YOU’RE LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEW SECTION OPENING UP AND EXTENDING THE GNAR, CORRECT?
Well, what if I told you COMBA and Guerilla Gravity are working together on providing a little love to the North side of the Morrison Slide trail in Red Rocks? Ecstatic or am I leaving you wondering where in the heck that Trail even is?
Morrison Slide is that nasty, switchbacky climb up to the Mesa off of Red Rocks Trail as you head North to get to Dakota Ridge. Most of us bypass the climb and buzz around the Red Rocks Trail to get there. Well, you’re gonna want to ride this when we get done with it.
Slated for work starting after S Dakota Ridge is finished this month, the plan is to enhance the North side of Morrison Slide first. We’ll be adding in some climbing turns, getting rid of the old school JeffCo switchbacks and wooden water bars, and adding in some side “play” features. Lots of red rock to work with so hoping for some Sedona influence! This trail has a lot of fun potential and will add to the overall Dakota Ridge Matthews Winters / Red Rocks loop experience. It also adds some actual vertical descending in that loop that will improve the overall fun factor.
Get your butts out there and take a spin on Morrison Slide now! It’s a beast going up the south side and a rugged descent down either side. We really believe there’ll be some solid additional GNAR added to the full loop after this project is completed.
COMBA and Guerilla Gravity want to make this an incredible addition to the Dakota Loop!
Get involved. Volunteer your time or pitch in for the cause of making better trails on our Front Range.
Editors Note; Wow Patt! Very cool! Can't wait to have one more reason to visit this trail system. Visit The Giddyup site and the COMBA site to see how you can help!
